Hike Day (Fridays)
These adventure days allow us to take our learning out into the beautiful green spaces of San Luis Obispo county. Children practice social skills such as caring for others of varying skill levels, teaching each other new skills, conflict negotiation and patience. The children also take part in sketching, journaling or painting about their interests along the trail. We read the signs we come across, practice making maps of the locations we revisit, identify local wildlife and find topics to research further. Children be encouraged and supported in taking safe risks that allow them to grow in self-confidence and ability to keep themselves safe. We practice caring for the land we are exploring. Above all, we slow down and take time to play, rest and appreciate the joy of being outdoors.
