Academic Learning
At Monarch Hills, we believe children should learn through play and hands-on experimentation. Allowing children long periods of play in an intentional environment allows children to practice the many academic skills they are ready for. Each day brings opportunity to practice math, reading, writing, science and social emotional skills in ways that are meaningful and authentic to the children. Learning through play allows children to practice skills they are working to master in fun and comfortable ways and at their own pace. They push themselves to new heights each and every day and often impress us with the complexity of their work. As educators, we watch these moments carefully and build our curriculum from the work they are invested in and the skills they are showing us they ready for. We also have periods of small group work focused on reading, writing and math built in to our daily routine so that we can introduce new concepts and practice skills that may need more direct instruction.
